Why do some parents tell their kids they are the best at everything?

They'd rather be the kids' friends than tell them the truth. Not that I'm saying you should tell your kid they're a failure if they're really trying, but telling them that they're the best at everything, especially if they're cheating and being rough, is going to do nothing but harm. It's just going to make them into selfish cocky people, I would imagine.
